The incident took place at Golapganj Upazila on Thursday afternoon.
Police have detained Abdus Salam, 35, of Noai Dakshin Bhag village.
The victims have been identified as Salam’s mother Shamsun Nahar, 55, sister Mariam Begum, 22, his son Tanjir Ahmmed, 3, and another relative.
Golapganj police station OC Fazlul Haq said Salam was suffering from a ‘mental disorder’.
